Sparks of Eternity: Lore
Eternity TTRPG can be played with your own setting. However, if you'd like to explore Aeturnum to its fullest, you've come to the right place. Learn about the world, its timeline, and the forces that shape and bring ruin to it.
This is a world built upon fifteen-plus years of loving work and imagination. What you see on this page is also only the tip of the iceberg...

What World will You Step Into
The strongest Dukedoms have survived, but they have become fractured. Long-time enemies have become allies, though only in their mutual fight for survival. Trade is diminished, population has dropped precipitously, and heroes are slain daily by monsters in the wilds.
Since that night, when the Star fell from the night sky... These are now the days of the ruin of civilization.
World of Aeturnum
Learn about fourteen major regions you can explore, each with ten or more smaller zones and detailed maps.
Timeline of Aeturnum
Visit the history of the world, from the world-gods themselves, to the Eternals, Dukedoms, and now the starless night sky.
Aeturnum Details
Discover the major forces that hold this world together, and rip it apart. If you are to survive, you must prepare.

No turns to wait through. No rulebook to wade through. Just ten minutes to learn, and a fantasy world that doesn't end where the box does.
The World of Aeturnum
Aeturnum is both the name of the world itself and its largest continent.
The confusion arose from early scholars in Jorinta (in the continent of Aeturnum) who believed that their continent, due to its enormous size, must constitute the entirety of the world’s landmass. Exploration eventually led to the discovery of Faltiir and Iota, but the mindset of early scholars remained: everything was Aeturnum, the whole world.
To help distinguish regions upon their discovery, the other continents were given supplemental names of their own: Faltiir and Iota.

Ateria
The land beloved and inhabited by golden elfs (the Ateri). Ateria is a land of expansive and ancient forests. Sunlight streams through the overhead foliage of trees beyond the height of any others – trees like columns in a forested temple to Renrys, Eternal of nature and life.
Ateria is located on the northern half of Aeturnum, mid-way between Kel-Nagrand to the East and Goldfang Spire of Murgana to the West.
Key Areas
- Draconic Altar
- Forest Fane
- Heart of the Forest
- The Tree of Life
Cascade Island
The largest island off mainland Aeturnum. Cascade Island is located to the South of Leonic, tropical and green. There are very few who inhabit Cascade Island – mostly pirates, hermits, and crazed wizards in search of the ruins and lost secrets of the deceased archmage, Janus.
In past ages, Dukedoms warred over rights to Cascade Island, but in current times with the dangers of Chaos Beasts, the island has been deserted of interest.
Key Areas
- Bay of Pirates
- Remnant of the Moon
- Volcanic Cascade
Desert Rose
A vast region that ranges from semi-arid to desert, culminating in a tropical region on the Northern shore of Aeturnum. The intense heat of the lands South of the tropical regions are too hot to support large populations. There is no individual ruler of Desert Rose, but only a few territorial lords who claim varying degrees of power.
This Desert gains its name from its rose-colored sands, almost like rose-colored water during dry-season heat waves, boiled in sunlight.
Key Areas
- Dagger Pagoda
- Halcyon Oasis
- Temple of Strife
The Dream
One of the reasons why so many find trouble believing in the existence of Eternals is that they (mostly) reside in a realm of existence known only as “the Dream.” This is the same realm that mortals enter when they dream at night, accessing realities beyond their normal consciousness.
This is also the final resting place of the souls of the deceased. Here, the Eternals rule existence in all realms - except for those of the "world-gods," themselves.
Key Areas
- Anima Aeturnum
- Shores of Eternity
- The Void
Eboncrest
Best known for its dark history involving vampire mages, cults, and the undead. Asa Eboncrest was one of the original Dukes of Aeturnum, establishing the Eboncrest Dukedom upon blood sacrifices to the Esper, Ifrit, hoping the dark entity would avoid his lands because of his willing submission.
These practices led to the Dukedoms of Murgana halting trade with Eboncrest and to Leonic sending assassins to stop the mad lord.
Key Areas
- Bloodmoore
- Castle Eboncrest
- Requiem Labyrinths
Faltiir
Roughly one-quarter the size of Aeturnum in land mass, Faltiir supports less than 1% of the world's population. Most of the continent is covered in dense forests and rugged mountains. Because so few live on the continent, and due to the recent turmoil that struck its inhabited areas, there are no known large-scale leaders in Faltiir.
Nations from Aeturnum are hesitant to inhabit the resource-rich continent yet, due to the dangers from the Chaos Stream in their own lands.
Key Areas
- 7-Pools of the Necromantic Being
- Black Mist Forest
- Mount Cyrum
The Hollows
Underneath the grounds of Aeturnum is an endless network of caves and caverns known as "the Hollows." These subterranean paths reach into the center of the world where lies the "Chaos Stream," a ravaging torrent of pure energy.
The Hollows are primarily dangerous because there resides the most powerful of Chaos Beasts. Proximity to the Chaos Stream turns monsters and animals alike into creatures far beyond the ability of most mortals to conquer.
Key Areas
- Collapsed Continent
- Final Folly
- Ifrit's Shadow
Iota
"The frozen island," located Southeast of Aeturnum. Iota, roughly the same size as Faltiir, is large enough to be considered its own continent, but rights to its rulership are not contested by any of the Aeturnum Dukedoms.
Iota supports a few settlements from the Aeturnum mainland, some native populations, and "The Jester's Court" of Chaos Beasts, but is largely uninhabitable.
Key Areas
- Frostcross
- Gem Mines
- Rhaoko's Grotto
- Red Snow
Jorinta
The original human Dukedom in Aeturnum, Jorinta was founded long before the others. Of all Dukedoms, Jorinta has also the most devastating history. 323-years after swearing the "Oath of the Dreamblade," Saint Ranroth entered into the behemoth Tree of Life, killed its guardian, and destroyed the heart of the Tree.
The result was an explosion that leveled the Jade Jungle of the jadori and permanently cratered the entire Jorinta domain into a desert.
Key Areas
- The Burning Expanse
- Lands Untraceable - "Ashima"
- Ruins of the Jade Jungle
Kel-Nagrand
In the Age of the Heroes of Light, Kleitengraas of the Illaid Dynasty betrayed his empire. He committed patricide, then fled to become one of the three Black Magia of Elmran – the Eternal who sought the Eternal Flux throne.
Later slain by the heroes of light in the depths of the World Mountain, it was revealed that Kletiengraas had been mind-controlled. Though none could hold him responsible for the actions he took, nonetheless the spirit and pride of Kel-Nagrand, as a people, was broken.
Key Areas
- The Black Halls of Kleitengraas
- Fiery Sanctum
Leonic
The Leonic family Dukedom was established during the same years as Murgana and Eboncrest. Leonic is nothing like its cousins. Rather than having a strong military focused on expanding the realm, Leonic has a peaceful agrarian society.
The people of Leonic are passionate and strong, but not industrialized. Every household trains their sons to be swordsmen, but only as a family tradition and rite of passage, not in anticipation of sending their next generation to fields of war.
Key Areas
- Academy of Heroes
- Swampland Ruins
- Werewolf Hold
Lormuda
The ancient seat of a broken line of empyreans known as the "Silver Elfs." Lormuda was named for its vegetation which grew best under the light of the moon - before its vacancy.
From the time of the empyrean fall and the “Mirror Incident,” which destroyed the lights of the night sky, Lormuda has lost much of its former vibrancy. Though fallen, the ecology of the region is still enlivened by ethereal founts of magic, and remains even now a wellspring of magical energy.
Key Areas
- Empyrea
- Forest of Silver
- Isle of the Turtle Dragon
Murgana
Known as the Holy Dukedom, Murgana was one of the later Dukedoms formed but is by far the most powerful in modern days. It is now also one of the longest lasting realms in Aeturnum, along with Kel-Nagrand and Ateria.
Much of Murgana’s culture is based on religious values. As such, the church holds significant power. Excluding the power of the Duke, the nation is in fact largely ruled judicially and practically by the temple to Hy-Rasyl.
Key Areas
- Crystal Castle of Murgana
- Cavern of Chronicles
- High Temple to Hy-Rasyl
Pandaemonium
In 225KS, shadowed demi-spirits emerged from the Lava Sea in what is now called the lands of Pandaemonium. These demon spirits of "The Dream" ravaged the northern regions of mainland Aeturnum, slaughtering untold numbers.
Now, the “Mirror Star” has fallen, crashing into Aeturnum, blanketing the northwestern portion of the main continent in starfire.
The wall built against the asura is all that remains, and desolate wastelands leading to the tainted sea.
Key Areas
- Andromeda's Bridge
- The Chaos Waste
- Temple to the Angel of Death

Timeline of Aeturnum
The “calendar” of Aeturnum begins 4,213-years before the forging of the Kingstones – the Kingstones being the markers of “time,” and prior to which, there was limited recording of history. We know only to this date, as the "beginning of time."
- BK: Before Kingstones
- KS: After Kingstones
Prior to ancient Yzarc, all that existed was the “world-gods”: Aeturnum and the Dream. There were others even at that time, but the story of Aeturnum is the story of all mortals and the world-god who came to be known as “the Dream,” who was close with Aeturnum.
Of course, it has been many ages since all but the Eternals believed in, or knew of, the world-gods.
Founding of Ancient Yzarc
4,213BK: Ancient Yzarc was built upon the continent that now possesses the same name as the world-god itself, Aeturnum: near the very heart of the continent, geographically, in an area where plains, forests, mountains, and rivers all met.
The Eternal Wars Begin, Destruction of Yzarc
3,540BK: The Yzarc were never meant to be gods to the mortal humans, and neither were the celestial trinati or the abyssal asura. However, how were mortals who crawled from the dirt of the world supposed to view the glorious city of Yzarc and the beings who inhabited such a city?
Creation of the Tree of Life
1,000BK: The world-god Aeturnum eventually created the Tree of Life to help rebuild the world following the Eternal Wars. The Tree of Life was actually the 9th Eternal created (previously, there were only eight), and it was a human who became merged with the tree, given an “Eternal Spark” – Renrys. To many, this was thought of as the “Tree Eternal.”
Oath of the Dreamblade
403BK: The Ateri and Empyreans emerged as new races from ash of the bark from the original Tree of Life (used in the artifact known as the “Gift of Kings”), following its creation. 597-years later, Ranroth, beloved son of the golden elfs, took the “Oath of the Dreamblade.”
The Great Betrayal, Birth of the Espers
80BK: Thus, Ranroth used the Dreamblade to infiltrate to the deepest heart of the Tree of Life, and kill the world-god Aeturnum’s avatar, within its depths. In so doing, he also killed the original Renrys, who was intimately tied to the original Tree of Life, as the enormous tree was felled from the inside.
Forging of the Kingstones
0KS: Nonetheless, the “Forging of the Kingstones” became the historical “title” for the start of their gods’ (the Eternals') absence from daily life, and legends began to abound as to the nature of the Kingstones, their location, and their importance to the Eternals.
Fall of the First Esper
221KS: Sinister Dreams was killed by a band of asura, near what is now known as “Dragon Perch,” where Holy Dragon and Sinister Dreams laid the first dragon eggs. After this day and the events following, the numbers of dragons in Aeturnum waned considerably, as war began over the fledgling race’s original nesting grounds.
The Day of Fire
225KS: Asura who had hardened, becoming vengeful and shadowed spirits with a self-given semblance of a corporeal form, emerged from the Lava Sea in what is now called the lands of Pandaemonium. These demi-spirits ravaged the northern regions of the mainland continent of Aeturnum.
First Chaos War
226KS: Now, mortals were forced to fend truly for themselves, for the first time, completely bereft of their already-absent gods. None could say any longer that the gods cared for the ways of mortals.
Founding of the Dukedoms
228KS: Religion alone could no longer govern the people, and failed to lend healing to the war-torn lands that so craved order. And so, great leaders were raised up among humans, who were the most numerous, yet physically and magically least of all mortal races. Dukedoms were named according to their family bloodlines.
High Temple Established in Murgana
230KS: Whereas other Dukedoms were established by prominent families who represented large numbers of followers, the family Murgana was far lesser known. The family claimed, however, that Hy-Rasyl had visited them, and instructed them to build a high temple that would represent his principles within the growing city of Gwynn.
Order of Vyros Founded
358KS: The Eternal brothers held very different values, and their Eternal sparks expressed very different powers. Thus began Eboncrest’s rise to prominence among the likes of Murgana, Kel-Nagrand, Ateria, and Lormuda. Though the rumored darkness of Eboncrest spread, their political reach and military power was unstoppable.
Tarscician War
500KS: The Tarscician war redefined the art of war among mortals, as no army had previously faced such indomitable enemies as the Dragon Knights – the elite of whom trained and rode dragons (progeny of the Holy Dragon, and from separate lineage, descendants of Sinister Dreams, into battle).
Eruption of the World Mountain, Birth of the Stoneborn
560KS: At the moment of eruption, the adamantium vein they’d found, and the igneous, living stone beneath it, shattered into a million molten shards. Those who were hit with the shards of living stone, and survived, became stoneborn in that moment. The living stone embedded itself deep into their bodies, forever altering them.
Invasion of Ateria in the Second Chaos War
776KS: For 550-years (since the First Chaos War), Murgana and its allies had held the wall of the Chaos Waste against the asura. This war marked the last time in Aeturnum history that asura ever pushed past the walls of the Chaos Waste.
The First Kingstone Uncovered
826KS: Yet, what else could this stone be, that glimmered with fiery light and cast images around the room in the style of stained glass of another world-god, its landscape consumed in volcanic violence? There existed somewhere else, entirely.
Death of the Black Magia
830KS: Four years prior, there had been only one “Black Magia” - Aerios Eboncrest, the vampire mage and famed necromancer, one of the few remaining descendants of the Eboncrest Dukedom’s family line. Now, Kleitengraas Illaid, prince to the stoneborn empire of Kel-Nagrand, and Duke Hyral Troea, father of the late Sharien Troea, joined the ranks.
Rebirth of Saint Ranroth "the Dreamblade"
832KS: Excerpt from the Black Journal of Thangoruin: "When the last straps were... tightened into place and my metallic brand settled across the broad of my back I sensed a slight rush in my veins... As I walked the plush beach nestled between the rough of the cliff beside it and the unrelenting sea I couldn’t help but ponder the meaning of the word “Timshel.”
Nox-Animus Treaty
833KS: Since the Creation of the Tree of Life in 1,000BK, the golden and silver elfs had been at odds. Following the Devourer Arc, Edigo Animus became king of the golden elfs of Ateria. During his adventures, he and the heroes of light had met with a Senator of Empyrea, named Nox Empyrean. Together, they aimed to once again unify the elfs.
Flux Cores Placed
835KS: Thangoruin and Rhaoko fused their own power, along with that of other like-minded Eternals, into crystals that were placed around Aeturnum and the Dream. Today, Flux Cores are the counterpart to Kingstones. They restore magical energies, and have been converted by the world-god to help mortals in the dark days following the Angel of Death.
Death of the Silver Elfs
837KS: Finally, the being that was unleashed by Helleid came to be known as the “Angel of History,” or the "Angel of Death" - an Eternal from another world-god. In 837KS, the “war” officially began, starting with the complete genocide of the silver elfs. Hellied, meanwhile, escaped far beyond the Eternal Zone, to let loose his plans, while watching from safety.
The Mirror Incident
847KS: This was the true “Mirror Incident” - the creation of second Yzarc at the hands of an imperfect god. What is known is that a star fell – the “Mirror Star,” as it came to be called – however it is possible for a star to fall. It crashed into Aeturnum, blanketing the northwestern portion of the main continent in starfire.
Mount Cyrum
892KS: Very few specially mark or celebrate this year, but it was in fact the year Ryu Entreri, Cado Lumen, Do’Zakarr, and Sanctus Vesica entered Mount Cyrum, on the edge of the Atrum Mountain of Faltiir, and killed the Necromantic Being. Only, the heroes didn’t survive the battle, and though defeated, Hy-Rasyl – as before – wouldn’t die.
Modern Day
899KS: In this modern day, upon the shoulders of all Aeturnum's history, your adventures await, great heroes. Chaos Beasts roam the wilds, Lormuda is in ruins, and the birth of the espers, crour, and “new” yzarc has thrown civilization into chaos. Meteors still fall, felling all stars from the night sky. With no lights left in the darkness, even the great Dukedoms falter.

Aeturnum Details
In the world of Aeturnum:
- World-gods created all, but lie dormant and forgotten.
- Eternals created to rule in their stead, but remain absent.
- Espers and Chaos Beasts roam the lands, devouring mortals and destroying age-old realms.
- Every race has a unique place in history (and many are custom to Sparks of Eternity).
- Every class has a specific reason for existing in society.
World Gods
Aeturnum desired mortals to populate the world-god, and had power over the material. Meanwhile, the Dream shared in this vision, and had power over spirits, which could be given corporeal form.
Both brought forth their combined creations. The Dream possessed the power to give consciousness, whereas Aeturnum formed their creations' bodies.
Eternals
Seeing that mortals worshipped the Yzarc as gods, or villainized them in unhealthy ways, Aeturnum and the Dream created the Eternals.
Elevated from mortal beings (both human and monstrous), the Eternals were gifted with powers to shape the mortal and immortal experience of Aeturnum and the Dream in ways they saw fit.
Espers
To guard themselves and their interests, many Eternals created “lesser Eternals,” also known as Espers. They are monstrously powerful, though they represent merely fragmented powers of their creators.
Though long passed, the creation of Espers marked the climax of the Eternals’ power, reach, and direct involvement in the mortal realm of Aeturnum.
Chaos Beasts
Magic from the Mirror Star seeped into the Hollows. Here, a “Chaos Stream” appeared, which is thought to be what severely alters animals and monsters into what are now called “Chaos Beasts.”
These creatures are more aggressive than their predecessors, larger, faster, and substantially more dangerous. The lands are infested with them.
Classes
Enjoy thirty fantasy classes, such as:
- Archon
- Assassin
- Cryomancer
