Oracle Overview

The most beloved and hated person in the world. The Oracle has tremendous power to shape the world and its events by predicting the future, and in some cases, changing fate. The awesome power of the Oracle is not one that can be trained; a person either has the skill or they do not.

Oracles did not exist prior to the destruction of the Kingstones and the death of the Eternal Elmran in 832 KS. Elmran was the Eternal of Time, capable of manipulating timelines and events in Altius to better suit his wishes. Now, with Elmran and the Time Mages gone, there seems to be no possibility of manipulating timelines or events in the future, so Oracles are now able to see into the future with clarity.

They are the most valued and feared members of any court in any realm. Frequent assassination attempts are made upon Oracles, though such attempts are frequently foiled.

Oracles are not perfect, and are not invulnerable. But they are prized beyond gold, so long as their powers hold true.

  • 2 Quickness
  • 7 Utility
  • 5 Versatility
Oracle Class Stats

Value Definitions

The following stat definitions roughly cover the class' strengths and weaknesses, in a representational way.

  • Attack: the overall ability of the class to deal damage and set the tempo in a battle.
  • Defense: the innate ability of the class to reduce damage and negative effects taken, both from physical and magical attacks.
  • Intuition: represents skills such as perception, stealth, or sixth-sense abilities to help them avoid otherwise unforeseeable harm.
  • Magic: the innate ability of the class to manipulate the very fabric of Altius and The Dream, turning those powers to their will.
  • Special: not all unique "powers" are magical in nature, and some classes have magic-like, "special" abilities.
  • Quickness: the overall speed, mobility, and initiative of the class.
  • Utility: the ability of the class to bolster allies, debilitate enemies, or provide useful effects in various out-of-combat situations.
  • Versatility: the class' ability to adapt to any situation or environment, both in and out of combat.

Oracle Stat Bonuses

Oracles gain stat bonuses upon leveling up, based upon the "Critical Option" chosen for each ability. These class-based stat bonuses provide roughly half of the overall stat benefits for your character, making them integral to your character's advancement.

The three categories of stat bonuses/ specialization for oracles are: blessings of the eternals of light (+1 Faith), blessings of the eternals of shadow (+1 Range), and memories of eternity (+1 Initiative).

Specialization Bonus
Blessings of the Eternals of Light +1Faith
Blessings of the Eternals of Shadow +1Range
Memories of Eternity +1Initiative

Oracle Roleplay Powers

In Eternity TTRPG, each class has its own unique set of "Roleplay Powers," which enable players to feel truly outstanding. It gives each character something that sets them apart from the rest of their adventuring party.

Roleplay Powers either provide auto-successes on specific skill or knowledge checks related to the class, or provide unique effects that make players feel like they're living in the world of Eternity TTRPG with their chosen class.

Detect Magic

Auto success against Fate Rolls involving noticing if there is active or maintained magic, or residue of past magics cast, within 100 yards. Oracles see magic as if it were paint, coloring the streets, walls, and forests of Altius. Some may even see spell effects, taking advantage of otherwise unknowable situations.

Guard

Auto success against Fate Rolls for noticing ambushes or attempts at stealing, even against the “Assassination” and "Theft" Roleplay Powers. None may surprise the one who sees the future. An oracle is a god-like eye, open and seeing, at all times.

Prophesy

Once per Game Session, cause the Storyteller to foreshadow a future event, specifically in a way that helps you overcome one obstacle, later on. Above all, the oracle is prized for their ability to pry back layers of the future, seeing what lies ahead. They may portend success or disaster, steering course to alter history.

Eternity TTRPG Oracle

Class Origin

The death of Elmran did not end time magic altogether, but it did collapse all of the separate “timelines” the Eternal had created, into one – the original. For well over 4,000-years, Elmran had been altering time within the Eternal Zone, using his vast powers to shape the Eternal Wars, his ascension to becoming the Flux Core, and an endless list of other events that shaped existence to his will.

Now, however (in 832KS), the power of time magic was limited. Archons retained the ability to hasten or slow time, but neither they, nor the Eternal who received Elmran’s Eternal Spark (Rhaoko), nor any other, could not travel in time.

And so, since long before the Eternal Wars, the first oracle was born.

Prophesy had long been a power innate in some humans (the original race). Now, the ability came too for newborns among all of the other races – jadori, treants, espers, stoneborn, crour, and the human children of the ateri and empyreans.

Seemingly, future sight had been a gift from the beginning, from Altius itself. Most do not realize that Altius is a world-god. But among those with the knowledge, it is speculated that Altius also possesses the gift. Or, perhaps, oracles see the dreams of Altius, while it slumbers, the world-god’s unconscious visions echoing into reality.

Many had long proclaimed – for thousands of years – their ability to see into the future, and predict events. However, they were always dismissed. The best among them were considered unreliable.

Very few realized that Elmran possessed control over time great enough to separate time into separate “realities,” and indeed, only the rarest of Eternal scholars in modern days recognize this fact. So, very few understand why oracles suddenly emerged back into history, and possessed legitimate powers of foresight.

For the last 67-years, true oracles have been working their way back into the fabric of society, winning over the trust and respect of rulers of every land.

The first among them who professed their powers were dismissed, abused, or even burned at the stake. But now, their powers have become undeniable. They act as Guards to every Dukedom, advising the realm on the best course of action. They detect magic from chaos beasts, and in some cases, battle alongside other magic-wielding heroes.

Oracles are also feared, and despised, for the ability to see the future is beyond compare.

Rare as they are, whenever a new oracle is born and discovered, they are a threat to any rival realm. Many oracles have been slain before reaching full maturity. And so whenever the power is found among the populace (and now, testing is done on children, regularly), many Dukedoms give them and their families protection, from that day forward.

The oracle may now be the greatest weapon and shield among the lords of Altius. They are considered second in society only to the archon, gem lord, and samurai – those who rule the Dukedoms.

Oracles do sometimes lie, after all. With the literal fate of Altius in their hands, their truths and lies can alter the course of Altian history.

Oracle Playstyle

The Oracle class is a Stat powerhouse, as you can boost allies' hit chance and defenses, while also weakening enemies. Over the course of even a few turns in battle, these Stat differences add up, and can wildly swing a situation in your favor.

There are many approaches you can take as an Oracle, but it's always great to boost your own and allies' Faith (Magic hit chance) with "Aspect of Eternity," especially since it can be maintained at the start of every battle. Also, you can instant-cast "Chains of Condemnation" to prevent enemies from rushing you. Meanwhile, "Omen" and "Proclamation" can drastically increase your hit chance with "Doom," to put a time limit on your target's remaining life.

While "Doom" is ticking down, you can protect yourself and allies with "Premonition," "Reflect," "Dark Omen," and even "Greater Dispel," to remove powerful buffs from enemies, or debuffs from allies.

Finally, "Divine Spark" will occasionally give you additional Intelligence to instant-cast more powerful Spells throughout the battle.

Oracle Lore

Freya: the first oracle, loyal to the Stonebolt dynasty. Along with the heroes of light, Elmran created Freya. She possesses incredible abilities to see into the future and foretell destiny. She is a stoneborn with many followers. She is also a Lord of Kel-Nagrand, though the fact that she is an Esper is not well-known.
